Hooks

🦋 Eir trained with the lance with the Wood Wailers. While she enjoyed the work, her experience was limited to the basics. She would enjoy learning, particularly from a Temple Knight as the Order of the Knights Dragoon were a favorite subject to read about while she was sick and bedridden.🦋 As a merchant's daughter, Eir is always invested in the price and sources of mercantile goods. She is also looking for supplier or donation contacts for the refugee shelter she is helping organize in the Brume.🦋 Following in the footsteps of her older "brother," Tristan, Eir has taken to wielding nouliths. She recently took up training in Sharlayan herself and can often be found studying at Noumenon or training as an assistant at the Psysis Technon. She has endless enthusiasm for discussing or learning more about all forms of healing arts.

An Isolated Upbringing

Eir is the only daughter of Laurence Armstrong, a merchant prince of Gridania. Laurence started out as a lumber trader with ties to Hingashi. He was able to grow his network throughout the eastern continent thanks to networking skills of his wife. The young headstrong daughter of a Kugane textile manufacturer, Reina Maibito was as passionately in love with Laurence as he was with her. Together they founded The Golden Lotus Trading Company. They would go on to specialize in importing the exotic fabrics of Aldenard and Thavnair to Gridania.Unfortunately, Eir's parent's romance was tragically brief. Reina died from health complications exacerbated by giving birth prematurely to Eir. Laurence, it is said, never fully recovered from the loss.

Mirroring her mother's ill health, Eir was born so weak it seemed unlikely she would survive her first year. Laurence spared no expense in hiring chirurgeons and conjurers. Easily exhausted and prone to flares pain throughout her body, the best her caregivers seemed capable of was sedating the child through her ordeals. Despite this, Laurence remained distant. Eir did survive and he would shower her in gifts on his visits. He rarely spent time in their home. Eir was raised primarily by her tutors and her father's assistants; sheltered, controlled, and largely bedridden.

At the age of seven Eir met Tristan Mondesir. Laurence had hired Timot Mondesir, a renowned healer at that time. While the father was able to expertly treat the child's symptoms, allowing her extended periods of reprive, it was the son who identified their cause. He deduced that her body was oversensitive to the abundance of Gridanian aether that took on the aspect of astral earth.

Going against their tenants of secrecy, Tristan shared what he was studying about barrier magic at The Studium. When he accompanied his father on Eir's healing sessions, he would secretly teach Eir how to, within herself, shield reserves of aether by aspect. Over years of practice she became highly adept at sensing aetheric aspects around her. She is able to shift a barrier around a given type within herself without much conscious thought.

Once healthier and able, Eir happily traded her bedside library for a polearm. She trained to join the Wood Wailers, which her father allowed on the condition that she also work at mastering bookkeeping and inventory management for the family business. Though Laurence had no intention of letting his daughter actually join the lancer guild, he felt the physical training helped improved her health and instilled some much needed discipline.

It was at 15 years of age that Eir's lifelong friendship with Tristan Mondesir came to a halt. The Sage, who had become like a brother to Eir, was reported to have been killed by black mage cultists in the outskirts of Ul'dah. Not for the first time, Eir wished to travel beyond the confines of the Black Shroud.
